Arnold Cressy High School

Welcome to Arnold Cressy High School. Nestled in Cape Town’s historic District Six, our public high school for Grades 8 to 12 combines a proud heritage with a vibrant, forward-looking community. Founded in 1951, originally as Cape Town Secondary School, the institution was renamed in 1953 in honour of Arnold Cressy, the first person of colour in South Africa to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Our campus, located at 103 Roeland Street, is a registered Western Cape Provincial Heritage Site, officially recognised in 2014 for its important role in education and social justice. Our school motto, “Volenti Nihil Difficile”, meaning “To those who are willing, nothing is difficult,” reflects the determination and resilience of our students and staff.

Arnold Cressy High School is a non-racial, co-educational public school serving approximately 700 learners. We celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and community spirit. Our corridors echo with history and pride as we prepare every learner to succeed academically and personally.
